Feldenkrais

The Feldenkrais Method® is based on somatic education (learning through movement about the body and mind relationship to the world).  It is about improving yourself via physical movement and paying attention to what you are doing.

By increasing your awareness, you will learn to recognise your habitual (muscular) patterns of movement and develop new alternatives, resulting in improved flexibility and coordination and deepening the understanding of self.

Everyone can benefit from Feldenkrais including:

·         Anyone wanting to prevent or recover well from injury

·         Babies and children with a disability or developmental delays

·         Adults with balance problems, reduced flexibility, or mobility issues

·         Individuals with chronic pain

·         Pregnant women experiencing discomfort related to their changing body shape

·         Older adults wishing to age well

·         Athletes and sports enthusiast ranging from elite level to weekend hobbyists

·         Performers such as musicians, dancers, and actors

·         People with neurological conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, Stroke, Multiple Sclerosis

·         Anyone interested in improving health, self-awareness and emotional well-being.

One method, two forms.

1.    The hands-on private lesson called Functional Integration® (FI)

2.    The group classes called Awareness Through Movement® (ATM)

Functional Integration® (FI) sessions can may help:

·         to reduce many types of pain and headache or chronic tension

·         to recover after an injury, regain lost function and improve the way you use your body

·         to enhance your physical performance and increase your enjoyment of many athletic and performing arts activities

·         to learn ways to identify and release habitual patterns of muscular tension

·         to explore more efficient and integrated patterns of movement

In an Awareness Through Movement® (ATM)  Lesson, the practitioner verbally guides the students through a series of movements to help them:

·         Learn ways to identify and release habitual patterns of muscular tension

·         Explore more efficient and integrated patterns of movement so that they may increase movement options
